The Industry is an interactive online documentary about the people behind the invisible drug trade in the Netherlands. Known for its liberal stance on the consumption of psychoactive substances, the Netherlands is less known for the illegal trade network that supply the Dutch demand. Use and low-quantity sale are often tolerated, production and wholesale are actively hunted by law enforcement.
Those working in the drugs industry often have little opportunity to share their perspective. It is a collection of people who range to rebellious to naïve, from passion for their profession to being chased out of it by violence.
Spark.sx helped on research and development for this project, working together with director Mirka Duijn, Submarine and VPRO.
